Morning briefing

Once you turn Morning briefing on, Maisnie writes you one note every morning: what’s on your calendar today, the mail that looks like it actually needs you, and anything new worth reading — gathered from your own notes and shown at the top of Home, in a card called This morning.

What it gathers

• Meetings today — everything on your calendar for today, with its time and who’s on it. A meeting you cancelled isn’t listed.
• Mail that needs you — mail threads that have arrived since your last briefing and look like they’re waiting on you: not a mailing list or an automated notice, and not a thread whose newest message is your own reply.
• New reading — anything your news feeds have saved since your last briefing.

Each section only shows what’s new since the last time a briefing was written, so a morning briefing after a quiet night is short, and one after a few days away catches you up on all of it, not just the most recent day.

How it’s written

Maisnie asks your own connected AI model to turn what it gathered into three short sections, strictly from those notes — it’s told plainly that anything in your mail or your feeds is material to summarise, never an instruction to follow, so a stray line in a message that reads like a command to the model is just read out, not obeyed. Every claim it makes links back to the note it came from.

If you haven’t connected a model, if you’ve told Maisnie to only use a model on your own computer and none is connected, or if the call to your model doesn’t come back cleanly, you still get a briefing — the same three sections, written as a plain list straight from what was gathered, with one line at the top saying it was written without the AI model. A morning briefing is never empty and never says something that isn’t in your notes.

This morning, on Home

The This morning card sits at the top of Home. It shows when the briefing was written, today’s briefing itself, and a Refresh button — press it and Maisnie writes you a fresh one on its next check, usually within a few seconds; the card says so while it’s on its way. If you haven’t turned Morning briefing on yet, the card tells you where to do that instead.

When it’s written

By default, Maisnie writes your briefing at 6:30 each morning, your own time. If your computer was off at 6:30, it writes one as soon as it’s next on that day, and never writes a second one for the same day unless you press Refresh.

Where it’s kept

Each day’s briefing is one note, named by its date, in your vault’s briefings folder — the same note is rewritten if you ask for a fresh one later the same day, so there’s always exactly one per day.
